Cheer Day 11

“People are like stained – glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
-Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Today’s nominee is one of great strength and beauty. The person who has nominated her has asked that we leave her name out of the blog and protect her privacy. I wanted to share with you though what was sent to me about our nominee.

“I am nominating my co-worker and friend …[She] needs a bit of holiday cheer in her life. I have worked with her for the past 12 years and she is one of the strongest women I know. Her husband was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer called multiple melanoma a few years ago. I worked with him as well… in fact, he hired me. He has been on long-term disability for almost two years now due to the aggressive treatments he must undergo. He has chemo treatments once a week and he must continue this for the rest of his life. [They] have a middle school-aged son. [She] is a wonderful mom and she continues to impress me with all that she does for her family. [She] comes to work every day and charges on with life with a positive attitude. I’m not sure how I would react in that same situation. Most likely I would not handle it nearly as well as [her].”

I shipped our gift to her as a surprise and hope that it helps her know how she is inspiring others just by being herself and how much her strength gives others hope. She truly is a person of beauty with a light that shines from within. I chose the Kathleen Necklace from Stella & Dot because it reminded me of an acorn and the strength of the mighty oak. Sort of makes me think about The Giving Tree and how much our nominee is giving all that she has every day probably leaving nothing left over for herself. Maybe our gift will be just the cheer she needs to remind herself how fantastic she is.
